Welcome to my Weekly Multimedia series!
Every week, I share the multimedia content I’ve consumed during the week.
Check them out!
Films
Strange Days (1995) | Directed by Kathryn Bigelow
A former cop who sells illegal virtual reality videotapes partners with his friend to solve a murder case.
Warning: GRAPHIC (from certain scenes to storyline themes). The cinematography of this sci-fi thriller film fits well with the plot involving tech and videos, and the psychological impacts it has on viewers.
Y tu mamá también (2002) | Directed by Alfonso Cuarón
Two 17-year-old boys, who are best friends, travel across the country on a road trip with an older woman.
I watched the film after reading The NY Times’s “100 Best Movies of the 21st Century” (#18). The narration connects well with the backstories of each scene, and the story itself definitely hits on themes concerning teens and growing into adulthood.
TV series
Summer Strike (2022) | Directed by Lee Yoon-jung & Hong Moon-pyo
A young woman decides to move into a distant, remote village to start over. But once she moves into a vacant apartment, hidden stories from the locals reappear.
This is a calming series, as the connection between the main leads forms. I rewatch this series a lot because of the characters and the cinematics of the village, to the conversations.
Dragon Sakura [S2] (2021) | Aired on TBS
A lawyer and his former student help a struggling school from closing down by getting select students into the top university through entrance exams.
I only watched Season 2 of the show, and Season 1 aired in 2005. But since there is such a big gap between both seasons, I like that they had a few flashbacks that connect with the ongoing deals and brewing conversations.
